Stepdad constantly brings 6-year-old stepdaughter to his 29-year-old friend's house, even after he told him she's not welcome: 'We don’t want kids in our home.'

Why would he bring his stepdaughter into a home where she isn't wanted?

What happened when the first person in your friend group had a kid? Did all the group's hangouts suddenly turn into baby activities? Did the parent start bringing their baby to adult-only places, hoping it wouldn't matter? Did the parent stop hanging out with their childless friends and start making new friends with fellow parents? Did everyone else in the group suddenly decide they wanted to become parents too, shifting the group dynamic from a group of childless adults to a group of parents within a few short years?

Whatever happened, it can be destabilizing for a friend group that wasn't built on a foundation of parenting to introduce kids into the mix suddenly. Parents famously prioritize their children's needs over their friends', and that's not a nefarious act! If my friends cared more about me than their babies, it would raise some red flags. At the same time, I would be sad if one of my friends became a parent and decided that they never wanted to see me again without bringing their kid along. It can be hard for childless people to tell their parent friends that they don't want to hang out with their children all the time without ruining the friendship. Saying, "I want to hang out with you and get your full attention without you constantly checking on your kid," can feel like a personal attack. It also doesn't help that babies need so much attention in the first couple of years of their lives. It's easier to be friends with a parent of a 6-year-old than the parents of a 6-month-old.

The stepdad in this story brings his stepdaughter over to his friend's house all the time, despite the fact that they've repeatedly told him that they don't want to do child-friendly activities with him and his stepdaughter.
